He united that single malt with Glenmorangie’s first whisky ever completed in casks which as soon as held Chardonnay white wine from the Meursault appellation in Burgundy. With its notes of moss dampened by rainfall, burning oak and earthy scents of the forest flooring, he created a very elemental whisky: wealthy, mellow and intriguingly deep.
In his Tokyo studio, Azuma Makoto drew on the whisky’s flavours to create his personal masterpiece. Gathering orchids, roses and numerous wild flowers from Scotland and world wide, he skilfully wove them by means of tree bark, roots and moss. His complicated, flowing botanical sculpture (entitled Shinra Bansho to replicate the notion at its coronary heart) is Azuma’s personal tribute to nature’s evolving harmonies. Fantastically reflecting the layered depths of Dr Invoice’s creation, it’s showcased on the whisky’s packaging.

Together with our first whisky completed in Chardonnay casks from Burgundy, this 23-year-old single malt encapsulates nature in all its kinds, by means of notes of lemon balsam, poached pears and cocoa powder layered on the oaky, earthy tones of the forest flooring. Azuma-san’s beautiful sculpture, featured on the whisky’s packaging, evokes the aromatic scents and elemental depths of this terribly uncommon whisky – a present from nature itself.”
