Two or three indie Royal Brackla

We find yourself tasting Brackla very often, even when the official bottlings aren’t often showcased. The one downside is that we maintain struggling a bit to outline the character of the distillate.

Cassata siciliana (Betty Bossi)

Royal Brackla 10 yo (46%, James Eadie, Small Batch, first fill bourbon and refill butt, cask #1598 + 303564, 1,155 bottles, 2024)

Royal Brackla 10 yo (46%, James Eadie, Small Batch, first fill bourbon and refill butt, cask #1598 + 303564, 1,155 bottles, 2024) Three stars and a half

Color: gold. Nostril: a beautiful steadiness with the sherry including depth to what would in any other case be a reasonably impartial profile, bringing out beer notes and completely ripe apples. Mouth: raisins take the lead. The cask work right here is somewhat charming, even showcasing mandarins and hints of ginger biscuits, with a contact of dried figs. End: of medium size, pushed by commanding raisin notes. Feedback: a top quality providing, although in my opinion, it is the bottler who deserves the applause.

Royal Brackla 15 yo 2008/2024 (58.3%, The Open Door, Taiwan, barrel, cask #6837, 215 bottles)

Royal Brackla 15 yo 2008/2024 (58.3%, The Open Door, Taiwan, barrel, cask #6837, 215 bottles) Four stars

The Open Door is a bar in Taiwan, described as ‘a haven quietly situated within the hustle and bustle of the town’—I have to add it to the listing. Color: white wine. Nostril: the purity and appeal paying homage to a positive southern Burgundy white, maybe a Pouilly-Fuissé. Notes of apples and bananas, honeysuckle, candy woodruff, limestone, and freshly baked brioche. A fragile and refined bouquet. With water: cassata emerges, full with candied angelica, cherry, and pear items—if this carries via to the palate, we’re in for a deal with. Mouth (neat): very mild, nearly syrupy, with a medley of citrus, apple, and pear liqueurs. It steadily positive factors rigidity in a pleasant manner, resulting in pure limestone and lemon. With water: the cassata with candied fruits returns, together with a contact of honey ice cream. End: medium size, honeyed, with comfortable natural teas. Feedback: one would possibly nearly mistake this for a younger Rosebank—what a shock! I reckon it might pair splendidly with ice cream, maybe cassata?

Cawdor Spring 6 yo 2015/2022 (61.2%, Elixir Distillers, The Whisky Trail, refill cask, cask #236)

Cawdor Spring 6 yo 2015/2022 (61.2%, Elixir Distillers, The Whisky Path, refill cask, cask #236) Three stars and a half

It appears Cawdor Spring is a commerce identify for Royal Brackla. At this price, we’ll quickly want commerce names for the commerce names—these Scots do love their model intricacies, as if every small label had been as grand as Apple or Tesla (although Tesla’s one other story…). To not be confused with Samaroli’s Glen Cawdor. Color: the palest white wine. Nostril: pleasingly easy, with ripe and unripe apples, a contact of chalk and limestone, and a touch of butterscotch. With water: delicate notes of fennel and dill seem, including a recent carry. Mouth (neat): vivid and gratifying, a combination between rum, tequila, and malt whisky (properly, ultimately). Lemons, apples, agave, popcorn, and nougat. I admire the very ‘stripped-down’ character of this younger malt. With water: the barley spirit steps ahead, tempered by a touch of cane syrup. End: medium size, recent, candy, and fruity, with a contact of glue and polish, a reminder of its youth. Feedback: it’s all the time intriguing to style a positive distillate in its early years. It’s not but mature, nevertheless it’s fairly agreeable as a younger spirit. Consider white rum or mezcal—even when barley doesn’t match the fragrant depth of cane or agave, its most important asset being, in idea, time. All in all, somewhat enjoyable.

SGP: 640 – 83 factors.
